Professional Development

The craft of doing business is the basis for our Professional Development Program. Custom-tailored seminars and workshops assist craft producers in developing and expanding their business capacity for a rapidly changing and challenging marketplace.

These sessions are offered throughout the year and are open to both emerging and established craft producers. They are held at the Centre or other locations around the Island as appropriate. Previous sessions have dealt with marketing, financial management, promotion, pricing, and exporting.

As part of our 3 year strategic plan, Framework for Progress, we are implementing initiatives in four areas intended to develop the economic potential of the craft sector in Cape Breton. These are:

  1. enterprise development
  2. export sales
  3. professional development
  4. centres of excellence

Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design is also providing funding support to craft producers in the areas of marketing and promotion.

  • Financial assistance is available for craft producers to attend trade  missions/shows to develop and expand their markets.
  • Financial assistance is also available for website development and/or the production of promotional materials.

For more information on funding programs available through the Centre, click on the Funding Sources tab above right.
