 Irene MacKinnon is a Sydney born-and-raised artist who creates elegant jewellery with polymer clay, beadwork and images.  She completed a Bachelor of Fine Art from Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, with an emphasis photography.

After university, Irene travelled Europe where she spent a number of years working in the arts in London and teaching art in Greece. In 1995 she returned to Cape Breton and established a business along with her husband creating commissioned murals for private and public clients.

In recent years Irene has turned her visual skills and keen eye for beauty to the medium of polymer clay. Attracted by the surprising complexity of the medium and the variety of techniques available to polymer clay artists, she began to create one-of-a-kind jewellery pieces. Her jewellery is available in selected shops including the gallery shop at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design.
